Windsong Aviary is nestled in the bucolic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Breeding birds is an art to us and it is because we love striving for a more beautiful, stylish and correct cockatiel that we continue to breed these wonderful, affectionate companions.

While we have enjoyed many exhibition successes over the past seven years, show rewards are only a small part of the success of breeding a beautiful bird.

Part of that success also comes from breeding affectionate and healthy cockatiels that bring new love and joy into the lives of all our customers, both exhibition breeders and pet owners alike.

The people who choose to own birds from a responsible breeder tend to want the assurances that come from buying from such a breeder.

We will also advise on the ethics of breeding and provide mentorship to those who would like to pursue the idea of becoming breeders and exhibitors themselves.

Our customers are the future of our fancy, and it is through educating them that we will see the beautiful cockatiels we love become the best they can be.

Windsong congratulates novice Joe-Joe Thompson
of Charlottesville for winning Best Novice and Second Best Novice at the 2007 Baltimore show with two birds he bred and banded. They were sired by birds he purchased from Windsong Aviary. (Shown above is his 2nd Best Novice pearl hen). His Best Novice went on to be 10th Best in Show! This was Joe-Joe's very first show!

They want a healthy bird, a certain mutation, a bird that is handfed and tame, or a bird of a known parentage with a guarantee that the breeder stands behind the quality of the bird.

As a serious breeder and fancier, we have an important role to play.

We carefully plan our breeding pairs before they take place. In addition, we take the time to educate the folks who purchase our babies on their care.
